Dan Harmon: The Exit Interview

Well what can be said?

Most interviews Kevin conducts are usually recollections of high points in a career of the person being interviewed therefore the nature of them is positive even Christopher Guest. While Kevin isn't as ego stroking as Lipton he generally does good job of trying to boost the spirits of his guest.

It certainly didn't work out that way for Mr. Harmon who has just been fired from his job. I knew nothing of this guys personality before the interview and only had glimpses of it through his own public actions of browbeating an employee through the media. The first thing he does? He shits all over Jamie for being a disney geek. He then goes on complaining about how the deck is stacked in favor of the hollywood privileged.

How much vitriol does a guy need to spew that his employers basically renewed a show so they could fire him? NBC could have canceled the show based on raitings and other standard network factors but they instead chose to renew the show just so they could fire this dude.

Nuff Said.

See you in the funny papers Mr Harmon.

Yes, he came across as intense and strange and he should have known that he was out of line with the wonderful Jaime (well handled by both Jaime and Kevin, BTW). But he basically admitted to bouts of untreated clinical depression and a possibly undiagnosed autistic spectrum personality. Plus he'd just been professionally crushed. This was not a well man. I found it to be one of the most fascinating podcasts I've ever listened to and kudos to Jaime and Kevin for handling the situation with the right balance of delicacy and calling him on it. I hope Dan finds some help.

Dan's right Disney sucks other than to go ride some rides sometime - but to have ones life be absorbed into that freakishly sanitized corporate nightmare - sucks for Jaime that he nailed it - and he even apologized - but face facts people - he nailed a harsh truth. He was not trying to be mean to Jaime personally - just stating a truth. Since Jamie loves Disney so much she should have owned it and stood up for why that horror show known as Disneyland is so great. I do see Kevin's side of things like he talked about in the Johnny Knoxville podcast - but Jaime really should have owned it with something like - I love Disney cause blah blah blah whatever. I'm sure if Dan had known how upset Jaime was he would have apologized even more. Samm's line to Jamie when she broke down a bit - something like - "That's some great acting" - was hilarious in an - oh crap she's not acting - kind of way.

I thought that for a person who babbled so much (not a bad thing), and has written so much, he has a lot of words to play with. Funny he has never picked up the use of 'please', thank you' and 'I apologize/sorry'. There were just so many places where those words were left out of the chat.
